Former Vice President Chen Chien-jen has been invited to attend a forum on the future of democracy slated to take place in Vilnius, Lithuania. That’s according to an anonymous source that spoke with Taiwan’s Central News Agency on Thursday.
The forum is scheduled for November 19 and 20. Unlike many such international events over the past two years, this forum will be held in person.
The forum’s goal is to address the shrinking of democracy and the expansion of authoritarianism worldwide. Attendees will share ideas about what concrete measures can be taken to strengthen the resilience of democratic governments and inject life into democratic discourse around the world. The forum is also meant as a chance to prepare for another summit on democracy slated to take place in the US next month.
Attendees will include the leaders of democratic governments, representatives from international organizations, academics, representatives from free media outlets, and others who work to defend democracy.
