New round of vaccines expected to offer mixing brands for second jab
Currently, around 42% of Taiwan's population is fully vaccinated.

The Central Epidemic Command Center says they will announce the plan for mixing doses of the 15th round of vaccines in the next two days. CECC spokesman Chuang Jen-hsiang said on Tuesday that it's expected that around 2,460,000 will be eligible in this next round to receive their second BioNTech dose.

Chuang says that people may have the option to mix their second dose with a BNT or Moderna jab, or they can get a second shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine if they choose not to mix brands.

Although Chuang is not sure exactly how many people will choose to mix vaccine brands, he says that the primary focus is for 60% of the population to be fully vaccinated by the end of the year. Currently, around 42% of Taiwan's population is fully vaccinated.

In addition, the CECC says that people who have gotten the Taiwan-made Medigen vaccine and need to travel outside the country may receive two doses of another WHO-approved vaccine. Medigen has not yet been approved by the WHO, and this has angered some netizens, who say that getting the Medigen shot was pointless. Chuang says that those who’ve gotten the Medigen vaccine but do not have urgent travel needs should not rush to receive a different vaccine.
