Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi says that the US continues to stand with Taiwan and remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold the freedom, security, and human rights of Taiwan’s people. That statement came from a letter addressed to Legislature President You Si-kun.
The intent of the letter was to wish the organizers of the 2021 Open Parliament forum success. The two-day event, which started on Thursday, has been organized by Taiwan’s foreign ministry, Taiwan’s legislature, and a US-based nonprofit, the National Democratic Institute.
Pelosi said that collaboration between governments on issues like responding to and recovering from COVID-19, promoting democracy, and strengthening the bonds between freedom-loving peoples is essential for the advancement of shared values and interests. She said the US Congress looks forward to promoting peace and progress between the United States, Taiwan, and the rest of the world.
