A government delegation from Slovakia has arrived in Taiwan for trade talks. The 43-member group, which landed in Taiwan on Sunday evening, is the highest-level delegation Slovakia has sent to Taiwan in almost twenty years.
Taiwan Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua says that she is glad European countries are showing interest in Taiwan, and optimistic about the prospects for promoting greater cooperation.
Wang says talks between Taiwan and the Slovak delegation will focus on issues of trade and industrial cooperation.
The Slovak delegation, led by Deputy Economic Minister Karol Galek, includes 18 representatives from Slovak government ministries. Each of the remaining 25 members is a representative of a Slovak manufacturing company, with expertise in fields ranging from aerospace to biotechnology and semiconductors.
The Slovak delegation’s visit comes less than two months after a Taiwanese trade delegation stopped in Slovakia during a tour of Eastern Europe. That visit to Slovakia in October resulted in the signing of seven Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at increasing trade and technology cooperation between Taiwan and Slovakia.
Minister Wang Mei-hua has remained coy about signing any further MOUs during the Slovak delegation’s visit to Taiwan. She says government authorities will make more details public in due course.
