Premier Su Tseng-chang is calling on the Central Epidemic Command Center to keep Taiwan’s borders tightly under control as the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 spreads around the world.
Su said that Taiwan has not seen local cases of COVID-19 for almost three weeks. However, the number of imported cases has been on the rise. Su is calling for the command center to continue thorough border inspections and to boost vaccination coverage.
Su said that currently, there are still nine million COVID-19 vaccine doses available. He is encouraging people who have not been vaccinated and those who are eligible for the second dose to receive their shots quickly.
The premier says that hospitals and clinics are now open for nighttime inoculations. He is calling on Taiwan’s people to get vaccinated in order to protect themselves and prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
