Nicaragua’s decision to cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan on Friday has left the future of the 143 Nicaraguan students in Taiwan unclear.
The education ministry says that it will provide assistance and guidance to the universities where these Nicaraguan students are enrolled should they decide to continue their education in Taiwan.
But it remains uncertain what will happen to the 53 Nicaraguans that are on foreign ministry scholarships that are only given to students from countries that recognize Taiwan. The education ministry says it will respect the foreign ministry’s decision on whether to continue granting scholarships to these students.
