Taiwan’s first COVID-19 infection in over a month is a woman in her 20s. The Central Epidemic Command Center announced the case during an emergency press conference Thursday night.
The patient is fully vaccinated, and works in a laboratory at Taiwan’s premier research institute, Academica Sinica. Health authorities suspect the woman contracted COVID-19 while working with lab rats.
Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says the woman developed a cough on November 26 and subsequently underwent testing for COVID-19.
The woman had extensive travel history around northern Taiwan, often taking public transportation.
Health authorities have followed up with over 100 people who have come into contact with the woman. A majority of those people have returned negative COVID tests, but must still undergo a period of quarantine.
