People with fevers over 38°C will still be allowed to cast their ballots in a referendum on Saturday. That was the word from Central Election Commission Chairperson Lee Chin-yung on Wednesday.
Lee says that Taiwan’s health authorities have approved election procedures for the general public. He says that the Central Election Commission will abide by all pandemic measures laid out by Taiwan’s disease-prevention officials.
Lee says this means that people who are currently in quarantine will not be able to vote. Meanwhile, people released from quarantine for less than a week will need to be tested before they can vote. However, Lee says that there will be special voting booths and procedures for people who have high fevers on the day of the referendum.
Lee says that the Central Election Commission has strengthened its disease prevention measures to ensure voters’ safety on the day of the referendum. He also says the Central Election Commission has procured more staff and supplies to address voting amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Lee says each voting precinct will be equipped with six standard voting booths and one special booth for those feeling unwell.
