Taiwanese voters are getting ready to head to the polls on Saturday to cast their ballots in a referendum. On the ballot will be four questions related to nuclear energy, pork imports, the timing of future referendums, and conservation of an algae reef on the Taoyuan coast.
The Central Election Commission says there are over 19.8 million voters eligible to cast a ballot. These include 676,000 people who will be able to vote for the first time. Voting will take place between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
The election commission says people should conduct research on the issues beforehand in order to speed up the voting process. It also reminds people to wear masks and abide by COVID-19 prevention measures when voting. In addition, it reminds those conducting last-minute vote canvassing that they may not come within 30 meters of any precinct.
The Central Election Commission says it estimates it can finish counting votes before 10:00 PM.
