A French parliamentary delegation, led by François de Rugy, left Taiwan on Sunday after a five-day visit. During their stay, they met with local officials to discuss a range of issues, including the situation in the Taiwan Strait and economic cooperation.

François de Rugy is former president of France’s National Assembly and chair of the country’s National Assembly Taiwan friendship group.

The French lawmakers met with President Tsai Ing-wen on Thursday last week. During that meeting, President Tsai said she hoped that, after France assumes the rotating presidency of the European Union next year, Taiwan and the EU will be able to sign a bilateral investment agreement.

The group also met with Premier Su Tseng-tsang, President of the Legislative Yuan You Si-kun, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu, and Economic Minister Wang Mei-hua. You presented de Rugy with a Medal of Honor for Parliamentary Diplomacy, making de Rugy the first French parliamentarian ever to receive the award.
