President Tsai Ing-wen is hailing the construction of Taipei’s first public housing complex to be built using prefabricated materials.
During the groundbreaking ceremony for the complex on Thursday, Tsai said the prefabricated construction reduces the need for manpower and shortens construction times. She said this will lead to the advancement of the technologies Taiwan’s construction industry uses.
The housing estate, located in Taipei’s Wanhua District, is expected to house up to 300 families.
Tsai said that public housing of this nature, which is only available for rental and cannot be sold, encourages more young families to come to urban areas and build careers. At the same time, she said that such housing reduces pressure on those who need public assistance.
