There's nothing like a hot bowl of soup to keep you warm and full on a winter day. With the mercury in northern Taiwan about to plunge, it's going to take a little more than that to keep the cold out.
Lows in the north of the country have dipped to 15-17 degrees, with Taoyuan City the chilliest. With extensive cloud cover blocking out most of the sun, staying warm is no easy task.
But this isn't even the peak of winter yet. Meteorologists predict that the temperature will drop further, to around ten degrees on Saturday, and stay around there until Tuesday.
Some people are hoping that this cold weather will at least bring a white Christmas– even if only on the mountaintops. It’s still up in the air as to whether they'll get their wish… they may have to settle for a Christmas rainfall instead.
