Taiwan’s high mountains could see a white Christmas
Forecasters say mountainous areas of Taiwan could see snow this Christmas.

The Central Weather Bureau says that Taiwan’s high mountains may see snow on Christmas Day. That’s as a cold air mass moves southward over the island, sending temperatures dropping, and a wet weather system moving in from southern China brings plenty of moisture.

Forecasters predict a chance of snow in places with an elevation of at least 2,500 meters above sea level.

The rest of Taiwan can largely expect a wet Christmas, with rain concentrated in the north and central areas, and spreading to the east coast.

From Christmas through the morning of December 28, Taiwan can expect chilly weather, with lows around 10C-12C. On December 28, temperatures will rise again, and rain will lighten in all areas except the north and the east.

New Year’s Eve is also set to be cold and damp due to a strengthening northeast monsoon, but the cold may not be as severe as over Christmas.
