More than one bidder is seeking to acquire Apple Daily Taiwan. This comes as the newspaper's Hong Kong-based parent company, Next Digital, faces liquidation.
In June, Hong Kong courts ordered Next Digital’s liquidation after they sentenced the company’s founder and prominent Hong Kong activist Jimmy Lai to prison time.
On Monday, Apple Daily said on its website that among the parties interested in buying the paper’s Taiwan edition is a company called AVENGERS Limited.
Apple Daily Taiwan says that AVENGERS Limited is a company with no Chinese funding or background. One of AVENGERS’ stockholders is a longtime resident of Taiwan and has experience in media. AVENGERS Limited has expressed interest in maintaining Apple Daily’s content, as well as expanding it to include more entertainment and food news.
