President Tsai Ing-wen called on the military to recruit new talent as she congratulated several lieutenant generals and major generals on their promotions Tuesday.
Tsai said peace depends on a solid national defense which requires not only precise weapons but also well-trained soldiers and officers who can employ their combat capabilities. She said the national army therefore needs more new talent.
President Tsai said the government has been reforming military systems and renovating army camps. Last year, she also proposed changing the management system to increase the morale of soldiers and help retain talent in the army.
At the ceremony on Tuesday, four military personnel were promoted to lieutenant generals and 19 to major generals. They will take up their new positions on January 1.
