The labor ministry has announced a new policy designed to encourage the vaccination of migrant workers against COVID-19.
The policy targets brokerage firms that arrange employment for migrant workers in Taiwan. The labor ministry conducts an annual evaluation of these firms, the results of which determine whether they can continue to operate. The new policy will award extra points to firms that get a certain percentage of the migrant workers they help employ vaccinated against COVID-19.
Firms that get more than 70% of their migrant workers vaccinated will receive one extra point. Meanwhile, firms that manage to get more than 80% of their migrant workers vaccinated will get two extra points, and firms that achieve a vaccination rate of more than 90% will get three extra points.
The new policy will take effect on New Year’s Day.
So far, 89.6% of migrant workers employed in Taiwan have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 60.8% have received both of their COVID jabs.
