New Taipei City is set to hold a 13 minute, 14 second fireworks display on Friday evening to mark New Year’s Eve. The show will begin at 8:22pm, Taiwan time, allowing New Year’s revelers time to take in the midnight fireworks display in downtown Taipei as well.

This is the city’s first-ever New Year’s Eve fireworks display. The fireworks will be launched over the Danshui River and a still-under construction bridge that is expected to become a national landmark when it opens in 2024. The fireworks will be launched in a kilometer-long array, and will be visible from both sides of the river, in the Danshui and Bali Districts.

On Friday, New Taipei Mayor Hou You-yi called on those planning to watch the display to comply with traffic rules and follow COVID-prevention measures, including wearing a mask at all times while in the display area.
