Taipei’s landmark Taipei 101 skyscraper is ready to go for its annual New Year’s fireworks display.
As the clocks strike midnight in Taiwan on Friday night, the tower will be at the center of a six-minute spectacle that will feature 16,000 fireworks and an animated display using a network of lights on one of the building’s sides. Highlights to look out for include specially designed fireworks arranged to form heart shapes and fireworks that look like expanding angel wings as they go off.
Accompanying the display will be a six-minute selection of symphonic music.
This year’s display is the result of six months of work. The display’s theme is “Towards a Better Future”. The spectacle’s organizers hope to use the show to boost morale and start off what they hope will be a happy and peaceful year with a bang.
