A cleaner employed at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport has tested positive for COVID-19. Taiwan health authorities say the woman, who is in her forties, has not traveled abroad in recent months, so they are counting her infection as a local case.

Authorities say right now, there is no clear connection between the Taoyuan case and other recent clusters of COVID-19 cases in quarantine hotels.

Six of the woman’s family members have tested negative for the disease. Nonetheless, Taoyuan City authorities have asked two schools attended by the woman’s family members to suspend classes for one day as a precautionary measure.

City authorities are in the process of identifying potential contacts at the airport, including hundreds of quarantine taxi drivers. They are also disinfecting the woman’s workplace in the airport parking lot.

Health authorities say the woman spent time at Zhongzhen Market in Taoyuan City between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on December 30 and 31. Authorities say anyone who was at the market at that time should monitor their health and get tested if they develop symptoms in the next 10 days.

The woman began feeling unwell on Sunday, and took a rapid test and PCR test on Monday. Both tests returned positive results. She had already received two doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
