White House Coordinator for the Indo-Pacific Kurt Campbell says that the United States’ policy towards Taiwan remains unchanged. Campbell was speaking Thursday at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington.
Asked whether the US should adjust its Taiwan policy, Campbell said that the US continues to support peace in the Taiwan Strait and peaceful cross-strait exchanges. He also said that the US is striving to increase its deterrent power to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Campbell said that the US exchanges views with regional partners to ensure that other countries also work to uphold peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. He said that the US believes continuity in the Taiwan policy it has pursued for several decades is in the best interests of all parties involved in the Taiwan issue.
