The Central Epidemic Command Center says that it is cutting down the waiting period between the second COVID-19 jab and the COVID booster shot.
Originally, residents of Taiwan had to wait five months after receiving their second jab to get their third. But on Friday, the center says that due to the increase of local cases of the highly contagious Omicron COVID variant, it is cutting that wait period down to twelve weeks for those aged 18 and over.
Those who received two earlier doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are advised to get a different brand of vaccine for their third dose. In addition to the AstraZeneca vaccine, Taiwan has supplies of the BioNTech and Moderna vaccines as well as the domestically-developed Medigen vaccine.
The Central Epidemic Command center says that Taiwan has adequate supplies of COVID-19 vaccine doses. It says it will ask local health authorities across Taiwan to work on expanding their capacity to vaccinate residents.
