Taiwan’s new training regime for military reservists is set to begin early this year, with the first two-week training camp scheduled for March. The regime, run by the newly-formed All-out Defense Mobilization Agency, aims to boost Taiwan’s battle readiness in case of attack.
Military officials confirmed on Monday that the new regime will include wilderness survival training. Reservists will also fire far more rounds than previously in the firearms element of the training schedule.
Participants will also undergo 56 hours of combat training, covering the construction of fortifications, first aid, attack and defense, and utilizing terrain, among other aspects.
Reservists will be called up once a year for two weeks of training. Previously, the requirement was only five to seven days’ training once every two years.
Training camps will host a maximum of 15,000 reservists a year.
