Taiwan reported 13 new local cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. Authorities also reported 24 more imported cases among people arriving in Taiwan. There were no deaths reported.
Four of the new local cases are related to a cluster outbreak centered around a steakhouse in Taoyuan City. Two of them tested positive upon going into quarantine, so there is a risk they could have infected others. However, the other two cases first tested negative, and then later tested positive while in quarantine, meaning they present a low risk.
A further two cases are related to an outbreak at the Golden Voice social club. They took a taxi driven by a confirmed case who attended an event at the venue. Both of the cases tested positive while in quarantine in hospital.
Another case is a security guard at Taoyuan airport. That case tested positive at the end of quarantine.
In recent days, authorities confirmed that a nurse at the Far Eastern Hospital in New Taipei City had tested positive. That nurse’s younger son was confirmed to have COVID-19 today. He tested positive while in isolation.
Finally, health authorities reported two clusters of cases with an unknown source. The first cluster involves a worker at a technology manufacturing company and their mother. The second cluster includes a father, mother, and son. Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says the father’s job is related to the Port of Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan. Local authorities are investigating.
Taiwan also recorded 24 imported cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. Fifteen of them tested positive at the airport, while the remaining nine people tested positive while in quarantine. They include ten travelers from the United States; three from Vietnam; two each from France and Australia; and one each from Paraguay and Saudi Arabia. The travel history of the remaining five cases is under investigation.
