President Tsai Ing-wen has paid a visit to a military base in eastern Taiwan to encourage the armed forces ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday. During Friday’s visit, Tsai observed combat training at the army’s Taitung Area Command, inspected a navy radar station, and oversaw preparation by the air force’s 7th Flight Training Wing.
Speaking ahead of a formal dinner, Tsai said she came to observe the armed forces’ preparations, but also to thank service members for protecting the people of Taiwan. She says her visit has confirmed her firm belief that Taiwan’s armed forces have the confidence and ability to defend Taiwan.
Tsai also singled out the air force’s flight instructors and ground crews for special praise, saying that they are key to the air force’s success.
With the Lunar New Year holiday just over a week away, Tsai also said she hopes service members have the opportunity to spend time with their families.
