COVID-19 (01/25): Taiwan reports 13 local, 25 imported cases

Taiwan reported 13 new local cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. Authorities also reported 25 more imported cases among people arriving in Taiwan. There were no deaths reported.

Four of the new local cases are part of a cluster centered around the Port of Kaohsiung. Another four have links to an outbreak in Taoyuan City, which began at a bank and a local steakhouse. Authorities are linking two additional cases to a cluster among baggage cart handlers at Taoyuan International Airport.

The sources of three of the 13 local cases reported on Tuesday are still under investigation.

Taiwan also recorded 25 imported cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday: five travelers from Canada, three travelers each from the United States, Thailand, and India, two travelers from Japan, and one traveler each from Nigeria, Sweden, and China. The travel histories of the remaining six infected travelers are still under investigation.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Taiwan has reported a total of 18,411 cases of COVID-19. That includes 3,429 imported cases and 14,928 domestic cases. Taiwan has also reported a total of 851 deaths from COVID-19.
