Foreign students, teaching staff and researchers arriving in Taiwan will not be allowed to use government quarantine facilities between February 15 and February 28. That’s according to the education ministry, which issued an urgent notice to schools and universities on Thursday evening.
The education ministry says that rising numbers of local COVID-19 infections mean that government quarantine facilities are at risk of reaching capacity. It says that is why the government has made the decision to prioritize availability for Taiwanese nationals.
The ministry says students, teaching staff or researchers who have applied to enter a government facility for quarantine between February 15 and 28 should rebook and find a quarantine hotel. It says people need to rebook at least five days before their arrival date in Taiwan. Otherwise, immigration authorities will revoke their entry permit.
The ministry says it expects students to begin arriving in Taiwan in less than three weeks’ time on February 16.
