COVID-19 (01/31): Taiwan reports 17 local, 38 imported cases

Taiwan reported 17 new local cases of COVID-19 on Monday. Health authorities also reported 38 more imported cases among people arriving in Taiwan. 

There were no deaths reported.

Of the 17 new local cases announced on Monday, eight were men and nine were women. The patients’ age ranges from below 10 to 89 years-old. Nine of those cases are tied to a cluster in Taiwan’s southern city of Kaohsiung, 7 to a cluster in Taoyuan, and one originated in Taipei. Ten of the patients tested positive while already in quarantine. Additionally, 11 cases were classified as breakthrough infections.
 
Taiwan also recorded 38 imported cases of COVID-19 on Monday. They include 19 cases among travelers from the US, two from China, and one each from Ecuador, Japan, Panama, Belgium, Korea, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia. The origin of transmission in the 10 remaining cases is still under investigation. All of the travellers arrived in Taiwan between January 14 and 30.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Taiwan has reported a total of 18,790 cases of COVID-19. That includes 3,671 imported cases and 15,065 domestic cases. Taiwan has also reported a total of 851 deaths from COVID-19.
