Eating and drinking is no longer allowed in movie theaters in Taipei, starting on Tuesday. This is part of the city’s efforts to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

After a number of recent cases with unclear sources of infection, the Taipei city government decided to implement measures aimed at improving public safety. As a result, moviegoers will no longer be able to eat or drink in movie theaters, although drinks and snacks can still be sold on premises.

Taipei Deputy Mayor Tsai Ping-kun says that offenders will not be fined for the time being, but he called on the public and businesses to cooperate.

Tsai also said that Taipei City will reopen its online vaccine appointment system in order to distribute the remaining Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine doses. Registration is set to begin on Friday, and shots will be administered starting on Monday. Walk-in vaccination sites will also reopen on Monday, after the Lunar New Year break.
