President Tsai Ing-wen visited essential workers and military personnel on Tuesday morning. The aim of the visit was to encourage those who are on duty on the first day of the Lunar New Year.

The president’s tour included a company under Taiwan’s Missile Command, the Central Emergency Operation Center, the Taiwan Power Company Central Dispatch and a police station in Taipei’s Zhongzheng District. Tsai offered encouragement, but also bonuses and boxed gifts of fruit.

When visiting the Central Emergency Operation Center, Tsai said the government will continue to provide funding, increase headcount, and retire old equipment, all in order to improve the service’s capacity to provide disaster relief.

Speaking to Taiwan Power Company employees, President Tsai said that Taiwan will continue to strive towards its goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by the year 2050. She said she hopes Taipower will make great contributions towards that goal, while maintaining a stable supply of electrical power. She also highlighted the importance of energy storage solutions in developing renewable energy sources.
