COVID-19 (02/02): Taiwan reports 16 local, 37 imported cases

Taiwan reported 16 new local cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. Health authorities also reported 37 more imported cases among people arriving in Taiwan. 

There were no deaths reported.

Of the 16 new local cases announced on Wednesday, six were men and ten were women. Health authorities say that six of the new local cases were in connection to a cluster at a port in Kaohsiung City in Southern Taiwan. Seven were discovered at a distribution center in Northern Taiwan’s Taoyuan City. 

Another local case is part of a cluster that has no clear source of infection. 

The 37 imported COVID-19 cases confirmed on Wednesday include travelers from the US, France, Singapore, Canada, Honduras, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Cambodia, Japan, and Croatia. Among those imported cases, 25 tested positive upon arriving in Taiwan, while 12 tested positive while undergoing government-mandated quarantine. 

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Taiwan has reported a total of 18,903 cases of COVID-19. That includes 3,752 imported cases and 15,097 domestic cases. In total, Taiwan has  reported a total of 851 COVID-related deaths.
