Premier Su Tseng-chang has praised Taiwan’s women’s national soccer team for their performance at the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup. Su said on Thursday that the team “touched” viewers in Taiwan with their stellar showing at the competition.
Taiwan’s team finished second in their group, before being knocked out by the Philippines on penalties in the quarter final.
Seven members of Taiwan’s team caught COVID-19 while in India for the tournament. In order to help the team return home, Taiwan’s government chartered a plane. The team landed in Taiwan on Tuesday.
Cabinet spokesperson Lo Ping-cheng has asked the education ministry to provide for the team’s every need during the 14-day quarantine period. The ministry is responsible for looking after players and staff during isolation.
