New Taipei suspends classes at two schools due to COVID cases
COVID case numbers for February 13, 2022

New Taipei has decided to suspend on-site classes at two schools as a student at each of them has tested positive for COVID-19. That was the word from New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih on Sunday.

The two students attend a junior high and an elementary school. They were among the 12 new domestic COVID-19 cases reported Sunday.

Mayor Hou said the two schools in Linkou District will conduct remote classes for two weeks, but there will be special provisions for students if their parents have no off-site care for their children.

The two COVID-19 cases at the schools are linked to a cluster in Kaohsiung at a gravel supplier.  In addition to the students, five other cases linked to the cluster were reported on Sunday, bringing the total to 34.

Among Sunday’s new domestic cases,  three are linked to a cluster at a New Taipei factory operated by Career Technology Co., bringing the number of cases there to 18.

Another new case is the wife of a man who came back from China on January 23 and tested positive after his quarantine ended. The couple's two children also tested positive on Saturday.

The 12th domestic case reported Sunday is a New Taipei resident. The source of that infection is still under investigation.

In eight of the 12 new cases, the patient had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Taiwan also reported 40 imported cases on Sunday and no deaths. Fifteen were people who tested positive upon arrival in Taiwan, while the others tested positive while in quarantine.
