Taiwan reported five new local cases of COVID-19 and one related death on Tuesday. Health authorities also reported 40 more imported cases among people arriving in Taiwan.
The addition of one more death from the virus brings the death toll from the beginning of the pandemic to 852. The deceased was a woman in her eighties with pre-existing health conditions.
Of the five new local cases announced on Tuesday, two were men and three were women. Two cases were connected to the same source at a factory in New Taipei City. Another two cases tested positive in quarantine for their connection to a known source in Taoyuan. Authorities are still investigating the source of one of the cases.
Taiwan also recorded 40 imported cases of COVID-19 on Friday. They include travelers from the US, India, Singapore, Australia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, the UK, Spain, Algeria, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Brazil, and Argentina. The travel history of five cases is still under investigation.
