Moderna announces plans to open Taiwan subsidiary
American biopharmaceutical firm Moderna announced plans to expand into Taiwan

On Wednesday, American biopharmaceutical company Moderna announced plans to establish a subsidiary in Taiwan. At the same time, Moderna also announced plans to establish subsidiaries in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia. Moderna focuses on producing mRNA vaccines, most recently creating one of the COVID-19 vaccines offered in Taiwan.

Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel says that Taiwan and Moderna signed a COVID-19 vaccine supply agreement in 2020. He said that the new subsidiary comes with the aim of improving Taiwanese people’s health.

Moderna says that it’s setting up the subsidiary because it sees potential in Taiwan’s production capabilities. It says it will continue to develop mRNA health solutions in the region and foster local talent.

Currently, Moderna’s subsidiaries in the Asia-Pacific region include companies in Japan, South Korea, and Australia.
