The world’s largest contract chipmaker, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), says that the completion date for its planned wafer fab in Arizona remains unchanged. A recent report from Nikkei Asia said that the plant’s construction had fallen behind due to a labor shortage in the United States.
Originally, TSMC planned to equip its Arizona facility with chip manufacturing equipment in September. However, the report said that TSMC had told its equipment suppliers it was pushing that plan back to February or March 2023.
TSMC’s Arizona facility is scheduled to begin chip production in early 2024. Despite Nikkei’s report, TSMC says its timeline for the plant remains unchanged.
