COVID-19 (02/18): Taiwan reports 16 local, 51 imported cases
Taiwan's COVID-19 case numbers for February 18, 2022.

Taiwan reported 16 new local cases of COVID-19 on Friday. Health authorities also reported 51 more imported cases among people arriving in Taiwan.

Sixteen of the imported cases tested positive upon landing in Taiwan, while the remaining 35 tested positive in quarantine.

There were no deaths reported.

One of the 16 local cases is the son of a previously confirmed case in Tainan City. He tested positive while in quarantine, so health authorities say there is little risk of infecting others.

The remaining 15 local cases are all part of a cluster in northern Taiwan centering on a real estate agency. Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says a total of 24 people in that cluster have now tested positive.

Chen says it is good news that most of Friday’s cases are part of one chain of transmission. But he says the cluster includes numerous people living in both northern and southern Taiwan, so authorities need to act fast to stop the virus from spreading further.
