Taiwan’s digital COVID-19 vaccination certificate will soon be valid for only nine months after vaccination, down from one year previously. The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced the change on Monday in order to stay in line with protocol for the EU’s digital certificate system.
Taiwan and the EU agreed to recognize each other’s digital COVID-19 vaccination certificates in late December of last year.
The center says that there will be no policy changes for digital certificates for booster shots, which currently do not have an expiry date.
Digital certificates consist mainly of a QR code, which, when scanned by a special application, proves the holder has received COVID-19 vaccine shots.
The CECC says that venue operators who use the app to read digital certificates can perform an update online and clean the application’s cache memory to make sure it behaves according to the latest specifications.
More than 60 countries worldwide use the EU Digital COVID Certificate, including many non-EU member states.
