Taiwan’s mountains see snow and cherry blossoms
Cherry blossoms on Fushoushan

A cold snap in Taiwan has brought Xueshan, or “Snow Mountain,” its greatest snowfall in five years. In addition to snow, blooming cherry blossoms can also be seen in Central Taiwan’s mountains.

Taiwan’s Xueshan mountain is seeing the most snow it's seen in five years. The trees and mountains are covered in blankets of white.

These mountain climbers made it all the way up to the top of Xueshan, the second highest mountain in Taiwan and East Asia, at 3,886 meters (12,749 feet).

The park official Chen June-shan says this year’s snow is the most they’ve seen in five years. If the weather keeps up it might break the current record, which stands at 145 centimeters of snow, set in 2016.

The temperatures on Xueshan have ranged from minus 3 to minus 10 degrees Celsius. It’s so cold that icicles are everywhere.

Snow isn’t the only thing to see in Central Taiwan’s mountains. Close to Xueshan are these spectacular cherry blossoms - now in full bloom at Fushoushan Farm. Surrounded by mist, they make a picturesque site. Cherry blossoms continue to bloom despite the cold weather, making the Fushoushan Farm a great place to visit during the upcoming long weekend.
