Taiwan reported three new local cases of COVID-19 on Friday. Health authorities also reported 65 more imported cases among people arriving in Taiwan. They also say one person has died after contracting COVID-19.
Two of the new local cases involve a man and his father in the Greater Taipei area. Authorities say they suspect the man contracted COVID-19 from his wife, who tested positive while in home quarantine. However, they have not found any evidence of contact between the man and his wife, so authorities cannot be certain that she was the source of infection.
The third and final new local case is the family member of someone who tested positive after arriving in Taiwan from overseas. Health authorities say Friday’s new local case would often go to deliver food to that person while they were undergoing quarantine. That’s why they strongly suspect that Friday’s new local case contracted COVID-19 through contact while delivering food to the person in quarantine.
Taiwan also recorded 65 imported cases of COVID-19 on Friday. Twenty-one of them tested positive on arrival in Taiwan, while the remaining 44 tested positive in quarantine. They include travelers from the Philippines, India, and Vietnam, among others. Health authorities are still verifying the travel history of 17 travelers.
