The French government says tensions in the Taiwan Strait are making it harder for countries to formulate an Indo-Pacific strategy. In a document published this week, France outlined its own approach to the region, and noted that Taiwan is a key partner for the European Union.

The document, titled “France’s Indo-Pacific Strategy”, also suggests that France should work with Taiwan and other Asian partners to offer “triple degrees”, certified by institutions in three countries.

Taiwan’s foreign ministry has welcomed news of Taiwan’s inclusion in the strategy document. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou says the document demonstrates the European Union’s solidarity with Taiwan.
