Taiwan’s defense ministry says that it is paying close attention to the Russia-Ukraine conflict and is on high alert for any further developments. That came in a statement issued on Monday, following media reports that accuse Taiwan’s military intelligence of incompetence.
Media sources say Taiwan’s government wrongly assumed that Russia would not attack Ukraine, despite rising tensions between the countries. The defense ministry says that these allegations are built on unreliable information about Taiwan’s military intelligence.
The ministry says that besides staying updated on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, it is also closely monitoring the Taiwan Strait to ensure national security.
In addition, the ministry says that the media needs to be careful about spreading misinformation coming from overseas and from within Taiwan. It says that trusting and propagating unreliable information can have serious consequences.
