Government establishes platform for public to donate to Ukraine

The government has established a dedicated fund to take in donations, which will then be sent to Ukraine. Last week, Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine, which has been met with international condemnation.

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen announced the creation of the fund during a Democratic Progressive Party meeting. She says that Ukraine has shown commitment to defending itself, and that the country has demonstrated strong will. She says that Ukraine’s actions have inspired people in Taiwan to be self-sufficient and resist infiltration from outside forces.

President Tsai said that Taiwan has joined other countries in sanctioning Russia, but the country is doing more to assist Ukraine. She says that she, Vice President Lai Ching-te, and Premier Su Tseng-chang have committed to donating a month’s salary to the newly established fund, which is overseen by Taiwan’s Relieve Disaster Foundation. Tsai says that Taiwan stands with Ukraine.
