Taiwan reported two new local cases of COVID-19 on Friday. Health authorities also reported 62 more imported cases among people arriving in Taiwan.
There were no deaths reported.
One of the new local cases is a man in his forties, who tested positive while in quarantine. Authorities had already identified him as a potential contact of other people with COVID-19, who are part of a wider cluster centered on a kindergarten in Taoyuan City.
The man tested positive with a high Ct value of 36. Health authorities also found that he had antibodies for fighting COVID-19. Those facts suggest the man was not infected recently.
The other new local case is a woman in her thirties from Kaohsiung City. Health authorities aren’t sure how she was infected with COVID-19. Right now they are testing 29 of her close contacts. So far, five of them have tested negative.
Taiwan also recorded 62 imported cases of COVID-19 on Friday. Twenty-three of them tested positive on arrival in Taiwan, while the remaining 39 tested positive in quarantine. They include travelers from the United States, Indonesia, and the Philippines, among others. Health authorities are still verifying the travel history of 27 travelers.
