President Tsai Ing-wen is extending her sincerest sympathy towards people in Australia affected by deadly floods that have inundated parts of the country.
So far, 10 people are dead, and the deluge has wreaked havoc on Australia’s farmlands and transportation networks. Brisbane, on Australia’s east coast, got almost a year’s worth of rain in a single week.
Presidential Office spokesperson Xavier Chang says Tsai is offering her condolences to people who have lost loved ones in the disaster. Chang says no Taiwanese nationals have been killed in the flooding.
With more rain on its way, Chang says the president is ordering Taiwan’s representatives in Australia to get ready to offer help to Taiwanese people in the country.
The Taiwanese representative office in Brisbane has been damaged by the flood, so it is not offering consular services. Instead, the Queensland Taiwan Center has taken over its duties.
