A blackout in March left millions of people in Taiwan without power. Now, a ruling party lawmaker says the government should launch an independent inquiry to fix the root causes.

Lawmaker Lo Chih-cheng says power cuts happen too often in Taiwan, and government inquiries always say the cause is human error. Lo says he thinks there are management issues at Taiwan’s state-owned power company, and he wants the government to ask an independent third party to fix them.

The inquiry, Lo says, could include experts from other countries. That way, he says, the public will have more trust in the inquiry’s results.

Premier Su Tseng-chang agrees with Lo that Taiwan shouldn’t be hit with so many blackouts. He says the government is moving towards setting up a multinational, independent inquiry.
