Spring seems to have come to Taiwan for good. The town of Jiaoxi in Yilan County is putting on an exhilarating event to lift people’s spirits and shake off the winter blues.
Liftoff! Kids and adults wave their hands with excitement and maybe a bit of anxiety. From high above, they will be able to see the scenic beauty of the Lanyang river.
The shores of Longtan Lake in Yilan County provide both adequate space and beautiful vistas for hot air balloon enthusiasts. The town of Jiaoxi will hold a festival for them on March 26. Last year’s event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so this year’s has to be special.
Besides three balloons over seven stories tall, there will also be five smaller, two-story mini balloons. Complementing the day’s excitement will be a light show in the evening, as well as musical performances.
Jiaoxi Township head Chang Yung-te is inviting everyone to this outdoor event, now that the COVID-19 situation in Taiwan has improved.
For some, a soak in Jiaoxi’s famous hot springs is enough to put them on cloud nine. But if that’s not enough, a hot air balloon may do the job.
