Taiwan’s foreign ministry says that Russia’s representative office in Taipei is still operating normally. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou was responding on Friday to internet rumors suggesting Russia will close its main diplomatic outpost in Taiwan.
Moscow recently added Taiwan to its list of countries deemed “unfriendly” to Russia. That happened after Taiwan joined in with international sanctions against Russia in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Ou says Moscow has not closed its office in Taipei, contrary to rumors. But Ou did not say whether Moscow has plans to close the office in the near future.
Foreign Minister Joseph Wu also says that the rumor that Russia is going to close its representative office in Taiwan is a textbook case of misinformation. He says the situation has been reported to the police authorities.
