A Taiwanese Mirage 2000 fighter jet has crashed off the eastern coast of Taiwan during a routine training exercise. The pilot, Lt. Col. Huang Chung-kai, successfully ejected from the jet and has been rescued.
During his training mission on Monday, Huang reported a mechanical failure and ejected into the sea. An air force helicopter picked him up shortly after noon. Huang was sent to hospital where he is in stable condition.
Taiwan’s Air Force Command Headquarters has sent a task force to Taitung Air Force Base to determine the cause of the accident.
