Health Minister Chen Shih-chung said that Taiwan may shorten the quarantine period to seven days if COVID cases are stable for a month. Taiwan saw zero local cases on Tuesday and recently shortened the quarantine time from 14 to 10 days on March 7.
When asked if quarantine time could be shortened to just five days, CECC spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang said that once the 7-day quarantine started, they would need to observe the situation for at least a month. Officials also want to see other measures strengthened such as the vaccine rate.
When asked if a booster shot rate of 70-80% would be high enough for the quarantine time to be lowered, Chuang said there is no set standard. The higher the rate of booster shots the better. He also said that officials are trying to prevent an outbreak like that in Hong Kong from occurring in Taiwan. He encourages the public to get their booster shots as soon as possible.
