Taiwan has been showing its support for Ukraine as Russia's attack on the country expands. In addition to the government's donation account for Ukrainian refugees, Taiwan is seeing all types of institutions, from bakeries to hospitals, fundraisers and donations to Ukraine coming in all different shapes and sizes.
Taiwan's support for Ukraine is coming fresh out of the oven. This bakery is making little treats with Ukrainian flag colors, and then donating the profits to aid groups in Ukraine. These customers are happy to support the cause, especially when it comes with a delicious snack.
This bakery isn't the only one making generous donations to help Ukraine. The Show Chuan Hospital in Nantou County is collecting supplies to send to Ukrainian people, many of whom are living in small bomb shelters to survive.
One of the hospital staff members says she remembers how the rest of the world showed support for Taiwan after the catastrophic 921 earthquake. She says that just like foreign donations made a difference back then, Taiwan must also seize the opportunity to help another country in need.
This hospital group has already gathered a large supply of face masks, blankets, and food rations. The value of these donations is estimated at over NT$120,000 (US$4,200).
Show Chuan Hospital Director Chuang Pi-kun says that some employees are also donating their hard-earned bonuses to Ukraine, hoping that it can make a difference there. Other hospitals throughout Taiwan are donating medical supplies like antibiotics and vitamins.
The road ahead may be long and uncertain, but it's clear that Taiwanese people are ready to give whatever they can to support the people of Ukraine.
